Another Interview with Slim Cessna !!

I’m not sure if you remember but we did an interview at Mitzi’s Sister before your show in Toronto way back in November of 2010 before the new record Unentitled came out. So yeah, hello again! Let’s talk about Unentitled!
SLIM: of course I remember you. How are you?
Great!

I read it took 3 years to put together this album; can you break down the process? What was the most challenging part of it?
SLIM: We challenged ourselves by trying to make a pop album. It was not easy for us but we like how it turned out. Taking an epic and turning it into a 3 or 4 minute hook is not in our nature, but we did it! One song we failed on however. "Hallelujah Anyway" somehow slipped through the cracks and went a full 7 minutes without a single hook. I guess we didn't notice till after the album was finished.

How was it working with Danny Pants again?
SLIM:
Danny Pants is the best!

What about working with Bob Ferbraches as an active member of the band, I know he is always involved in recording/producing and on the organ.. What more did he do for this album?
SLIM:
Like you said, he's always been there behind the scenes. With Rumley needing to step away for awhile, Bob has come out from behind the curtain. Instead of playing some organ here and there, for this album he was involved in every song.

Have you received any negative feedback in regards to the more ‘pop’ feel of Unentitled?
SLIM:
no

What does Jello Biafra think of your new ‘pop’ sound?
SLIM:
I guess he likes it ok. He still lets us stay at his house when we go to San Francisco.

Has anybody ever taken serious offence to any of your lyrics?
SLIM:
Of course.

Do you/will you play “Hallelujah Anyway” live in its full 7 minute glory?
SLIM:
We have played it live, yes.

Are you coming back to Toronto any time soon?
SLIM:
Yes, we are playing the Horseshoe Tavern November 3rd!

The band has almost hit its 20 year mark; do you have anything special planned for your big anniversary in 2012?
SLIM:
We want to do something special in Denver. It would be nice to have a show with past and present members. At least the past members that still talk to me.
